We’re just a few days away from The Great Chickasawhay Race #4. I’m so glad to see that so many friends from our past races have registered and that we have many first time participants! Here’s a few reminders and updates about river conditions:
- We’re looking at a river stage of close to 4 feet for this year’s race. Last year, we enjoyed a river that was around 7 feet (ideal conditions). So, this year’s race will be more challenging. Some rain this week would definitely be a welcome thing.
- Keep up with current river conditions here: https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?gage=wynm6&wfo=mob
- LET’S GET TROPICAL!! It’s hot out there, so our race theme this year is TROPICAL. So, use your imagination. You’re welcome to dress up in anything from Parrothead gear, Hawaiian attire (grass skirts, anybody?), pirates, beach bum, Gilligan’s Island, NCIS Miami, surfer dude, whatever and etc. Prizes for best costumes!!!
-As in past years, there will be an emergency take out spot just over halfway down our race course should anybody need it.
-Flies!!!!! They’re out this year, for sure. PLEASE bring insect repellent with a maximum amount of DEET. I love the organic repellents, but trust me on this one ;)
-You MUST wear a Coast Guard approved PFD during the race.
-I have asked shuttles to stage a bit earlier than what has been listed on the website. Shuttles will start staging at Hwy 84 boat ramp (parking and event finish) by 6:00 AM on race day. Please make an effort to park early and hop on one of our shuttles. Earlier start will be key to making this a safe and enjoyable event. Last shuttle leaves at 6:45 AM, sharp.
-Thanks to McDonald’s in Waynesboro sausage biscuits will be available at Hwy 84 boat ramp that morning for participants. Thanks to the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, fruit will be available at race start in Shubuta.
-Be sure to drop off your boat and gear at the Shubuta boat ramp the day before the race or before 6 AM on race day. We will have security there overnight. Our shuttles will not carry boats to the start on race day.
-If you have friends thinking about entering the race, encourage them to register sometime this week. No “Day Of” registrations.
-One more reminder that you are welcome to join us for the pre race meet and greet and “Let’s Get Outdoors Expo” at Maynor Creek on Friday afternoon. Food and refreshments available all day, and a BBQ and Shrimp Boil planned for our participants after 5 PM.
